Choosing Green for Marketing – My Journey

Will Bernan - Green Marketing Specialist

I’m often asked, “Why did you choose to do marketing in the eco-friendly, green sector?” Honestly, it wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment decision. It was a journey that took years, crossing various fields but always revolving around the "green" vision I’ve always cherished.

1. Starting from a Love for Nature

As a child, I loved nature, climbing trees with friends and watching wildlife programs on VTV and Discovery Channel. Seeing tree-lined streets or a small garden full of flowers and greenery always brought me a strange sense of peace. Observing how animals survive evoked deep emotions in me, from the maternal instincts of creatures to the harsh survival battles in the natural world.

By 2021, when the pandemic hit, I had the opportunity to join a company specializing in plants. That’s where I began to build a foundation of knowledge and passion for eco-friendly products.

My job back then was to help customers choose and care for plants suitable for their living spaces. Through this process, I realized something: plants aren’t just decorations. They represent a connection between people and nature, a bond that many have unintentionally forgotten in our modern society. From then on, I promised myself to dive deeper into this field, to do more in spreading the value of the "green sector."

2. Shifting to Environmental Technology and Hygiene

After leaving the plant company, I continued my environmental protection journey by joining a project developing an app for home and office cleaning services. This field also related to the environment, but from a different angle—helping people keep their spaces clean. This job gave me a deeper understanding of pollution issues and the bad habits we often overlook that severely affect our surroundings.

I spent months researching keywords about plants, soil, and eco-friendly cleaning products that could replace chemical alternatives. This profoundly changed my view on daily consumption and environmental protection. By this point, I knew for sure that I wanted to stay committed to eco-friendly products.

3. Joining Eco-Friendly Textiles – Where the Green Dream Comes True

In 2023, I was fortunate to join an eco-friendly textile company in Vietnam. This was where I truly understood the concept of "green fashion" and the importance of developing environmentally friendly products in the fashion industry.

Here, I witnessed a stark contrast between fast fashion—which simply follows trends and generates huge amounts of waste—and eco-fashion, where every product is tied to a consciousness of environmental protection. Natural fibers like bamboo biocell, Ananas pineapple fiber, and organic cotton are not only beautiful and durable but also help reduce negative impacts on the environment. This is why I chose to align myself with eco-friendly textiles.

Whenever I introduce a new eco product, I don’t just see it as something visually appealing but as a commitment to this planet. And that truly makes me proud of the work I’m doing.

4. Two Personal Websites on Plants

Aside from my main job, I’ve developed two personal websites focused on plants. These are platforms where I can share my knowledge and experiences on plant care and spread my love for the "green sector" to others. I believe that whether it’s a small green plant on a balcony or a little garden in front of a house, every bit contributes to creating a healthier living environment.

My website articles aren’t just about plant care; I also weave in stories about environmental protection and the importance of living green. From caring for a small potted plant, we can form habits of loving nature, loving the environment, and eventually take bigger actions in protecting our planet.

5. My Future – Always Connected to the Green Sector

Looking back, I see that every step I’ve taken has brought me closer to the "green sector" that I’ve always wanted to be a part of. From plants, cleaning apps, to eco-fashion, I know this is the path I will continue to follow. I don’t just market eco products; I genuinely believe in the value they bring to society and the environment.

Perhaps in the future, I’ll expand into more environmental projects or continue developing my plant websites. But whatever I do, I will always prioritize ecological and natural values as my guiding principle for every action.

Conclusion

Choosing the green sector for marketing wasn’t a random choice. It’s the result of dedication, passion, and a desire to contribute to a better world. And I believe that each of us can make a small contribution, just like tiny green leaves, but together, we’ll create a greener, more beautiful world.
