The Pride of Young People Contributing to the Birth of Ananas (Pineapple Fabric) in Vietnam

I’m part of the 90s generation and have been working in the eco-textile industry for over two years. As a marketer focusing on sustainability, every day is a journey of learning and sharing green values in the textile field. But today, I want to share a story that fills me with pride – the creation of Ananas pineapple fiber fabric, the first eco-friendly fabric to be mass-produced in Vietnam from pineapple leaf waste!

You may have seen this news on major media outlets. And yes, I, Will Bernan, can’t hide my pride in knowing I played a small part in this significant milestone.

A Journey Full of Challenges but Also Full of Hope

Over three years ago, when my company joined the project to research and develop pineapple fiber from leaves, it wasn’t an easy path. Turning agricultural waste, like pineapple leaves, into high-quality textile material was a huge challenge. From researching technology to refining the process, creating fiber that could be woven into fabric was no small feat.

There were moments when I, along with the branding team, had to dive deep into every step of the product’s development, from collecting pineapple leaves to weaving them into fabric. I remember the days spent over coffee with the research team and leadership, listening to them talk about each tiny, meaningful innovation. It was a blend of Vietnam’s agriculture with new creative technologies, and I truly felt the importance of creating a product that not only benefits the environment but also increases farmers' income.

Proud to Contribute a Small Part to the Ananas Pineapple Fiber Story – Sharing It with the World

When Ananas pineapple fiber fabric was officially mass-produced, news outlets at home and abroad reported on it. I couldn’t help but feel overjoyed to see my company and the product I accompanied being recognized. This wasn’t just personal joy, but also a source of national pride.

From 1 million tons of what was once considered waste, we now produce 18 tons of eco-friendly fiber fabric every month. This is a groundbreaking achievement, opening doors for the growth of sustainable fashion. Not only does it help reduce agricultural waste, but it also protects the environment and creates jobs for many workers.

When I saw articles from VNExpress and Saigon Times reporting on the project, I shared them with my friends and family right away. I think, if you’re not in the industry, it might be hard to grasp the immense value of creating eco-friendly fabric from sustainable resources. This is not just a product; it’s a story of creativity, perseverance, and collective efforts for a greener future.

Vietnam’s successful large-scale production of pineapple fiber fabric marks a milestone that shows we can be proud of our ability to innovate and develop technology. The fabric isn’t just for the domestic market but is expected to be exported to many countries worldwide.

I believe that with the emergence of products like Ananas pineapple fiber fabric, the fashion industry will become more sustainable. As a young person from the 90s generation, I’m truly proud to have contributed a small part to this green fashion trend.
